Opening Hours: 5:00 PM -10:00 PM daily – Volcano doesn’t recognize holidays. :0}                                    Last car is @ 8:00 PM

Advice to go early: Approximately about 1000 visitors daily.

Handful of Local Vendors: Chip , flashlight, bottle water and etc.

Directions: Drive South to the dead end on Highway 130 – you can’t miss it.

What to Bring: Light jacket / flashlight / bottle water / wear long pant and hat / walking stick for safety /

If you don’t like long hike, then you should visit the Kalapana Lava Flow, while the county offer Free Admission and the walking distance is only about 15 minutes away compared with 3.5 miles to Kilauea lava flow.  Be careful not to go at night, because many tourist got lost in the lava field. This can be very dangerous because there were several well experienced hikers, whom got lost for several days and fortunately was saved by a chopper.

Just amazed the red lava rolling down the hillside, that travels about 5 mph, then suddenly entry into the   cold ocean water turning instantly to about 1800 degree F.  Hot stream and EXPLOSIVE occurs immediately with throwing spark and water slashing.

Don’t worry folk, it is very SAFE to visit any of the Lava Flow.  Our County Forest rangers from the Hawaii Volcano National Park are well trained in Public Safety and Awareness.  All you have to do is follow where the visitor are going.  There will be rangers providing directions for the general public.  Rest to ensure it’s VERY SAFE to watch this LIVE magnificent Mother Nature Show. :0}
